Libertarians have real, practical, liberty-focused solutions for the most critical issues facing families and communities in North Carolina.
Safeguard Wake’s Water Resources
We have much work to do to prepare for a future with an even larger population grows and more frequent dry water years. Protecting our lakes, streams, and riparian zones is protecting our water supply. Managing storm water runoff also help protect our water supply.
Facilitate Urban Farming Initiatives
Wake County is blessed with sufficient agricultural capacity to be self-sustaining and we need to protect and nurture that. But we should also ensure that local abundance is accessible to all communities. We must work to eliminate food deserts and urban farming may be part of the solution.
Education & Outreach
Education of and outreach to the pubic and key stakeholders is critical path. The board cannot effectively protect our water without engaging our urban and suburban communities. Gathering up-to-date data on our soils and water as well as the best techniques and technologies and making that info accessible is key.
Improve Coordination with other Counties
Rivers, lakes, and watersheds exhibit no respect for human-drawn political boundaries…yet it is notoriously hard for disparate political entities to cooperate on joint projects. However, as S&W Supervisors in different counties often share the same objectives, we can help foster regional cooperation.
Hemp and Cannabis
Hemp and cannabis legalization should be a priority. It would afford our agricultural sector significant new revenue opportunities, liberate our communities of color from decades of disproportionate criminalization on possession charges, and provide us with a powerful tool to combat the opioid epidemic.
Protecting Wildlife Habitats
Providing pockets of natural space with a focus on xeriscaping, which is the use of native plants best adapted to grow in a particular climate. We know what these have been historically in Wake County but we must be prepared to adapt in the event of material climate change.
